Summary:
The Inpatient Neurology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a certified and licensed nurse practitioner or physician assistant specializing in the comprehensive management of adult neurology patients within the hospital setting. This role involves evaluating and treating acute, chronically ill, and medically complex patients across units such as the emergency room, intensive care unit, progressive care unit, and general medical floors. The Inpatient Neurology APP plays a crucial role in delivering specialized care for a wide range of neurological disorders, aiming for optimal patient outcomes through collaborative, multidisciplinary approaches.

Essential Job Functions:
- Demonstrates knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, pathophysiology, and presentation of neurological
- conditions.
- Completes daily inpatient rounding and takes new consults of varying acuity levels.
- Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum of their educational experience and certification.
- Develops a comprehensive individualized plan of care for neurologic patients, including teaching, disposition planning, and necessary referrals to other healthcare team members.
- Implements treatment plans in collaboration with attending neurologists, ordering appropriate imaging, labs, and additional testing as needed.
- Utilizes critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills to identify, evaluate, and manage the individual needs of patients and families.
- Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and within scope of practice.
- Conducts comprehensive neurologic examinations to assess adult patients.
- Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and diagnostic tests within the neurology specialty.
- Prescribes and manages inpatient pharmacologic agents and other treatment modalities with a focus on efficacy and safety.
- Assesses family adaptation levels and coping skills to determine necessary interventions.
- Formulates and implements outcomes-based treatment plans using patient assessment, evidence-based medicine, and professional guidelines, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams as appropriate.
- Evaluates patient responsiveness to treatment therapies and adjusts plans accordingly.
- Initiates timely communication with primary teams based on patient needs.
- Facilitates ongoing communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Counsels and educates patients and families about neurological processes and treatment.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation in electronic medical records per documentation standards.
- Works collaboratively with medical and nursing staff to promote creative problem-solving and provide professional support.
Minimum Requirements:
- Graduate of accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or ARC-PA approved Physician's assistant program
- National Board Certification by a recognized APRN certification center in Acute Care.
- Active Texas Licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association.
- Preferred experience of working at least one (1) year in the inpatient neurology setting as an APP.
- Strong working knowledge of Neurology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
