Chest Medicine Associates seeks a full-time, fellowship-trained, neurocritical care physician to join our well-established practice group in Portland, Maine. For over thirty years, we have provided regional expertise in pulmonology and critical care.
Description: We are seeking a full-time neurocritical care physician to join our high-volume and high-acuity neurological/neurosurgical critical care practice. The neurocritical care service admits and primarily manages all critically ill patients with SAH, AIS, ICH, status epilepticus, meningoencephalitis, post-resuscitation cardiac arrest, and other types of neurological emergencies. The neurocritical care program serves the only tertiary referral center/comprehensive stroke center/level one trauma center in the state, has a busy clinical practice with teaching responsibilities, and has a successful, extramurally funded clinical and translational research program.
Employer and Practice Environment: Chest Medicine Associates is a private practice physician group, which provides critical care services to partner hospitals. The successful applicant will practice neurocritical care at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center-Portland, the 700-bed flagship hospital of the MaineHealth system. MaineHealth Maine Medical Center-Portland is a major academic affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine, providing residency and fellowship training to >300 physicians in most subspecialties as well as critical care-trained APPs.
Credentials: Fellowship training in neurocritical care is required. Candidates must be board certified (through UCNS or ACGME) in neurocritical care. Pulmonary Disease board certification is desirable, but candidates with other specialty backgrounds are strongly encouraged to inquire.
Work expectations: The work model may vary depending on a candidate’s specialty background and interests. All ICU shifts are in-house. Because of our night and weekend coverage responsibilities, the applicant must additionally be comfortable and competent managing patients in the medical ICU. We will work to accommodate applicants who would like to maintain general neurology or outpatient pulmonary practices.
