The mission of the Neurocritical Care Fellowship at the University of South Florida is to prepare our physician for the independent practice of Neurocritical Care. To this end, the overarching goal of this fellowship is to provide the trainee with comprehensive, organized, immersive, and well-supervised training in Neurocritical Care in an environment that encourages and supports research and innovation such that he or she might confidently and competently practice independently as an academic neurointensivist providing specialized treatment and patient care.
Tampa General Hospital (TGH) is a quaternary referral center with a 32-bed Neuroscience ICU that treats a wide range of neurologically compromised patients, such as head trauma, aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke, vascular malformations, CNS infections, tumors, spinal cord injuries and seizure disorders. The TGH Neuroscience ICU is the largest on the West Coast of Florida and is staffed 24/7 by a dedicated Neuro-ICU provider team. Clinicians and staff take a “culture first” approach and pride themselves on responsiveness and attention to detail. Tampa General’s NCC team works in close cooperation with neurosurgery, neurology and nurse partners. TGH’s world-class Neurocritical Care service consists of board-certified and fellowship-trained neurointensive care specialists who come from diverse, multi-professional backgrounds. Each specialist maintains a research and educational portfolio on a variety of topics, including ICU quality and process improvement, severe traumatic brain recovery, critical care monitoring, point-of-care ultrasound and intracranial hemorrhage. In addition to highly trained physician specialists, the Neuro-ICU at TGH is staffed with dedicated, neuroscience-trained advanced practice providers who have decades of combined experience. The Neuro-ICU delivers the highest quality care to the patients with the most complex and life-threatening neurological diseases.
