PONS Presentation: Challenges in ICU Care - the Parkinson Patient (With CEU)
,
Available CE Hour(s): 0.5
Parkinson’s disease is a chronic neurological disorder for which there is no cure. Healthcare providers and patients
with this disease face many unique challenges when these patients are hospitalized. These institutional and patient
specific challenges, if not properly managed, can lead to adverse events, anxiety for patients, and prolonged hospital
stays. This program will explore these challenges focusing on the medication related issues healthcare providers and
patients with Parkinson’s disease face. Practical recommendations are offered to improve outcomes using an illustrative
patient case vignette to illuminate medication related issues unique to the Parkinson population.
Learning Objectives:
- Review the unique challenges of caring for patients with Parkinson disease (PD) requiring intensive care.
- Identify potential drug-related problems these patients may encounter during their hospitalization.
- Provide recommendations for clinicians caring for these patients to prevent adverse outcomes.
