PONS Presentation: Medication Safety in Neurocritical Care (With CEU)
,
Available CE Hour(s): 0.75
Medication safety in critically-ill patients continues to be of particular interest to healthcare providers.
Neurologically-injured patients are at a high risk of adverse drug events due to the nature and severity of their
illness. Many situations in Neurocritical Care are without specific high-quality treatment and/or monitoring
recommendations. This presentation reviews several high-risk interventions commonly utilized in Neurocritical Care
patients and provides recommendations for monitoring of these situations.
Learning Objectives:
- Review strategies for mitigation of risks from medication utilization in critically ill and neurologically-injured
patients.
- Identify opportunities for monitoring and risk mitigation of the peripheral administration of hyperosmolar and
vasopressor therapies.
- Discuss appropriate initiation, dosing and potential monitoring for pharmacologic venous thromboembolism prophylaxis.
